Plan Your Trip to the Carnegie International this Winter

Whether or not you've already set your New Year's intentions, why not include immersing yourself in more cultural experiences in 2019. Here in Pittsburgh, we’ve got so many wonderful institutions to visit, learn from, and be inspired by. Today we’re showcasing the 57th edition of Carnegie International, currently open to visitors at the Carnegie Museum of Art until March 25th, which means you've still got time to plan your trip.

The Carnegie International, right here in our community, is the oldest North American exhibition of contemporary art from all around the world. In past years, the exhibition has showcased work from some of the greatest visionaries in history, including Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock, Camille Pissarro, and Andy Warhol, among many others. This year’s programming focuses on “what it means to be international at this moment in time,” and presents impressive work from 32 different artists.

Among the many things to do and see at Carnegie International is the Cinematheque series, which includes four film screenings shown on Saturdays. A matinee program for the kids is followed by a tea and cookies celebration, while evening programming for adults culminates in a culinary experience called FEAST that you're not going to want to miss. FEAST features highly-skilled chefs, including Keyla Nogueira, chef at Casa Brasil, who work within the night’s theme to bring an artistic and cultural experience to your dinner plate.

If you prefer a more interactive experience, consider checking out Tam O’Shanter’s Drawing Sessions, where the artists and novices come together to explore improvised forms of drawing in a group setting. You'll also have the chance to hear from artisans themselves at the Artist Lecture Series, a program that brings you public talks about the ideas and creative processes that go into making the works of art that move us all.

For a full breakdown of all the exciting series and events happening this winter at Carnegie International, head to their website. You'll also be able to check out important information such as museum hours, parking, and pricing so that you can plan your trip accordingly. We hope you make it out to this impressive celebration of art this year, and maybe we’ll see you there!
