Embrace the History of Pittsburgh at the Fort Pitt Museum

Nestled at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers is a destination that tells the fascinating story of how Pittsburgh became a city.

We're talking about the Fort Pitt Museum, and it has welcomed thousands of visitors since opening in 1969.

Through interactive exhibitions, it also tells how our region played a crucial role in shaping the United States, and exhibits include:

Fort Pitt: Keystone of the Frontier

During the mid-eighteenth century, who controlled the lands west of the Appalachian Mountains was far from decided. The clash for the land between three Native American tribes and military representatives from England and France began in the backwoods of present-day Western Pennsylvania, which the museum states forever changed the course of world events and ultimately led to thirteen rebellious colonies to declare their independence from Great Britain. This exhibit allows visitors to explore these developments through numerous artifacts and intricate dioramas.

Nat Youngblood's Pittsburgh

Nat Youngblood was a 20th-century artist who served in the military as well as spent 35 years working for The Pittsburgh Press. This exhibit highlights his fascinating career and displays a collection of his artwork that spans from his military career through his retirement at the newspaper.

First Floor Gallery

The First Floor Gallery is where visitors can learn what life was like for the region's earliest residents through hands-on activities. They can bring furs to the market at the trader's cabin, see if they have what it takes to watch over the fort during the French & Indian War, and more.

The Fort Pitt Museum is just one of the cultural attractions that you can enjoy if you call Lot 24 home. Please contact us to schedule a tour where you can see our amenities firsthand.
