Take a Look Inside at Doors Open Pittsburgh
October is here, which means it’s time for one of our favorite annual events near our apartments in downtown Pittsburgh. This weekend, Doors Open Pittsburgh will kick off two full days of tours, storytelling, and special access to an exciting collection of the city’s most unique spaces. Learn about Pittsburgh history, explore stunning architecture, and meet fellow city residents as you journey through never-before-seen buildings and spaces.
Doors Open, Inc is a non-profit organization with a mission of supporting Pittsburgh’s local economy, preserving our unique buildings and landmarks, and celebrating our heritage by inviting residents to join in and learn all about what makes our city such a special place to live. After their 2018 event, 77% of attendees reported an improved opinion of a neighborhood they toured, while 70% said they planned to return to that neighborhood as a result of their experience at Doors Open. The event also generated nearly $40,000 dollars in revenue at local businesses, supporting the Pittsburgh economy and introducing residents to their new favorite spots to hang out in town.
If you’re interested in attending this year’s event, there are a few options. You may purchase a general event ticket that grants you access to a comprehensive list of buildings and attractions, and plan your itinerary by heading to the building list and choosing the spots that you know you can’t miss. Feel free to filter by category of building, neighborhood, or schedule, and choose from stunning Pittsburgh landmarks including Blacksmith Studio, Heinz Hall, Trinity Cathedral, and the Byham Theater. Check out the days and times that each building will be open, and when you head there you’ll be greeted by knowledgeable tour guides who will give you the lay of the land. You may also buy a ticket for an Insider Tour, a thematic, guided experience that gives you an in depth look at some of Pittsburgh’s most famous buildings. Tickets for Insider Tours are only available until this Friday the 4th, so if you plan to attend be sure to purchase your ticket ahead of time.
