Experience a Breathtaking View of Pittsburgh from the Duquesne Incline

Just up the road from Lot 24’s Pittsburgh luxury apartments, you’ll find a hidden gem of the city, the Duquesne Incline. The incline has been in operation since 1877, and underwent a major restoration in 1963 so that today it proudly stands as one of the few remaining, operational inclines in the U.S. Here in Pittsburgh, you can take a ride on an original wooden cable car up Mt. Washington, where you’ll be rewarded at the top with an absolutely breathtaking panoramic view of the city skyline and three rivers. Also at the top, you’ll find a museum of Pittsburgh history, with unique souvenirs, maps, and photos, as well as information about incline operation and machinery.

Many visitors to the Duquesne Incline like to go around dusk when the city is lit up and the view is all the more magical. At the top, you’ll find an observation deck, where you can take pictures and enjoy the view at your leisure. You’ll also want to take your time at the museum, as it is rich with local history and little-known facts.

An outing to the Duquesne Incline is delightfully affordable, at just $5 per person, round trip. If you plan to drive to the base, there is paid parking available for your convenience. You’ll want to bring cash, as the Incline is a part of the Pittsburgh Transportation System and thus uses a fare system. You may also opt to go with a group, for a special occasion or work outing. Groups of 10 or more can receive a free guided tour Monday through Friday, but be sure to schedule your group in advance.
